Badisco – Melancholy (Original Mix)

Fresh new progressive house song from this young Swiss house producer Badisco, I heard this for the first time a couple of weeks ago somewhere as I was flicking through. However I have just found the ID. Great synths and nice progression, very much like a Tiesto song in places with the almost euphoric flow of the song leading to the spectacular last 30 seconds of the track.

Have a listen and get it on Beatport.

Drake Feat Rihanna- Take Care

Now Drakes album has been available for a couple of weeks, I finally got the time to sit and have a thorough listen to it in its entirety. Before hearing the album I had my reservations on whether Drizzy would grow as a recording artist and push forward to the next level, or would we just get another 17 slow jam/fast rap album. After listening I was pleasantly surprised, obviously we do see a lot of Drakes trademark style but Take Care does offer something more. For me this album is the best of his career so far, the production standard, as a whole the collaborations work well with a verse from Andre in the track The Real Her a particular favourite for me. The production standard, the finish of the album and generally seems a lot more polished than his previous two efforts.

However the Stand out track for me is the song which takes the albums name featuring Rihanna. This is the second time this year we have heard these two work together after Rihanna taking the lead on the well received What’s My Name, this time the roles are reversed with Drake fronting and doing a great job.

This song I feel is a genuine contender for a late entry for song of the year. With the Piano bringing the smoothness to the track while the tribal drums bring the head-nodding bass throughout. The two sounds of Piano/Drums can be compared to the styles of this very current couple. Overall a really strong Rhythm and blues album with not many artists currently being able to match Drizzys ability and success in this genre.

Amy Winehouse - Like Smoke (ft. Nas)

After much thought over what my first post would be, I finally decided on a previously unreleased track from the late Amy Winehouse who recorded these soulful as ever vocals in 2008, and finished off with the legendary rapper Nas paying tribute to Amy and doing what he does best, Rapping about real life. Seemingly recording it posthumous with references of Occupy Wall Street.

Although this has been doing the rounds for a month on the internet, These two great performers vocally compliment one another perfectly on this track, and i am very much looking forward to owning the Hidden treasures album.

The album drops 5th December and surely will be a worthy sequel to the superb Back to Black.
£1 from each copy of 'Amy Winehouse Lioness: Hidden Treasures' that is sold will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, the charity set up in the singer's honour.
